Recycling 101

The Basics

Recycling has become the "in" thing again thanks to the excitement of people like you! Never before has so many products been made out of recycled materials that would otherwise go to the landfills

Why It's Important
Recycling helps protect our resources, our environment, our quality of life.


How It Works
There are three parts to the recycling cycle, and you're critical to at least two of them.

Plastics

Containers labeled with a plastic type #1-#7 such as soda, milk, juice, shampoo, and yogurt containers

*Do not include clamshell containers such as togo containers

  • Rinse Clean
  • Discard lids
  • Flatten
  • Leave Labels
  • Include bags, styrofoam containers, any plastic not labeled with a #1-#7 label
  • Include hazardous material containers such as motor oil, antifreeze, pesticide bottles

 

Paper, Mixed Paper, Magazines, Newspaper

All clean paper from home such as junk mail, schoolwork, computer paper, magazines, catalogs, brown paper bags, and newspapers including inserts
  • Recycle
  • Seperate if seperate bins are available
  • Bundle or place in bags
  • Include newspaper used for animal bedding/lining, plastic newspaper bags, carbon paper, or laminated paper

 

Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard, cereal and food boxes, pizza boxes (if clean)

  • Break down and flatten
  • Rinse clean of food residue
  • Include food and pizza boxes that have remaining food residue

 

Aluminum Cans

  • Rinse clean and flatten
  • Include pain and aerosol cans

 

Glass

  • Include dishware, ceramics, mirrors, window glass

 

Tin/Steel
